Ask production houses, freelancers, and even college students this question and you’re bound to get the same answer:

“It depends.”

Go to any video production website in Dallas to check their price list only to find:

“Contact us for a quote.”

We don’t doubt that this is a frustrating response. You just want to make a video, why can’t anyone give you a straight answer on how much you need to pay? In this post, we hope to demystify the cost of video production so you can better decide what you’re needing.

If you really think about it, “it depends” also applies to other buying decisions you have to make on a daily basis. Whether it’s something as simple as buying a latte or something for your headache, you’re going to have hundreds of options that fall into different price ranges.

Want to buy a new vehicle? Do you want a car or a truck? Automatic or manual transmission?  Do you want a sunroof? How about leather seats? How many cup holders do you think you’ll need? Why don’t you go ahead and add that subwoofer? Would the car lot across the street have something like this for cheaper?

The key reason for the answer “it depends” is the amount of options you have to choose from, and the ways in which those options affect the price. Some projects require one camera operator and no editing. Others require a director, an assistant director, a script supervisor, several cam-ops, a gaffer, a production sound mixer, and couple of production assistants and a full post-production team. Your video will fall somewhere between two extremes in complexity and price. All of these options make it impossible to give an accurate quote for any specific project without knowing its details.

Thought Culture simplifies everything by asking a simple question: “What is your budget?” With your price range in mind, we’ll be able to tell you how many videos you can get, how big the team working on them can be, and the quality you can expect.

Trust us when we say that we want your business, especially if you have a fun video in mind. If you have a limited budget and want a video that will turn heads, let us know! We’ll work with you to make sure you walk away with a fantastic product and come back for more.
